some updates to keep you updated

I am hesitant to blog lately because I feel like I have so little to report and it just seems so boring to always being talking about my health, but since that is the bulk of what is going on in life right now, I guess I'll get you up to date.

Dr. Su: I started going to a reflexologist that a bunch of my friends rave about. He was able to feel my foot and pinpoint all of my health issues I hadn't even told him about. He is sure he can help. I'm going in twice a week for acupuncture and I spend my time laying there with needles stuck in me to pray and rest. I'm not sure that I've noticed any big differences, but have been told it will take a while to help. I am going to trust that it is helping and enjoy my weekly visits. Dr. Su is a sweetie and his upbeat personality always raises my spirits.

Juicing: David and I did a week of intense juicing. We had fresh carrot, carrot/apple, or greens juice on the hour every day. At the time, I didn't think it was doing much, but now that we have stopped, I can tell the difference. We are going to start again and I'm looking forward to it.

East Coast: David and I have a trip to the East Coast scheduled for the end of the month. David's best friend is getting married in Pennsylvania and we though we'd go a little early to visit D.C. and stay a little late to go to New York. Everything is set for us to go. I am trying to rest up and take care of my body in the next few weeks so I am as well as I can be. I'll still have to be pushed around the museums in a wheelchair and we won't be able to pack our days full, but I think the change of scenery and time away together will be a blessing. We definitely need a vacation.

Siblings: My sister is pregnant. David's little brother is getting married a week from Friday. CRAZY!

The Little House: I usually write about our remodel on Crooked Shmooked, but since I'm not blogging over there right now, I'll fill you in on here. Our bathroom is totally gutted and the pipes and such things that I know nothing about are being reworked to move the toilet and the shower. It will take some time, but it's exciting to know it's in the works. David and his dad took all the old sheetrock down in the guest room and it's ready to get some new walls, then it's on to the closet for the same treatment. Our living room is painted a light grayish blue and it is so weird to see color in there, but I know I'm going to love it when everything is put together. We are on our way and I'm not even going to guess how long it will take until we can move back in, but things are happening and that makes me happy!

Husband: I know I always talk about how wonderful David is, but you have no idea. He is always cooking me amazing healthy meals and making delicious juice. Today he left me with some romaine/celery/green apple/strawberry juice. It is so good. His cooking/juicing skills are only the start of how good he is to me. Here I am, laying around in sweats with no make-up every day and he does my wife work and hubby work and manages to surprise me with sweet little things and make me laugh... Gosh. I love him.

Encouragement: A couple weeks ago I spent a few hours with a friend who has a chronic disease that puts her in the similar situation I am in these days. It was an enormous blessing to talk to her, get advice, and glean from what she has learned. She said that in one of her devotionals she read that God sometimes asks us to suffer for Him and He chooses people He knows can handle it. She said we have been chosen to suffer for His sake so that we can help others. (That's a really short version of what she said.) I was really encouraged just remembering that God has chosen this for David and I. No matter how long it lasts, He knows we can handle it (only with His help- trust me) and this is His calling for us right now. It definitely helps me to look at it as a calling rather than "this trial we are going through" because it enables me to just live in it and live up to what God has for us and others. I don't know if that makes sense. My head is rather jumbled right now. How about I just say that I am encouraged and even when I am discouraged, the encouragement encourages me. Ha.

Oh dear. I am so sorry for putting you through the length of this post. And I didn't even give you a photo to lighten it. I'll work on getting a photo for next time. : ) Thank you for your prayers. God is good. I'll just end with that.

this is for you, Ang

The most recent photo of us- at a friend's concert last month. I sat in the back and we only stayed for his 4 songs, but it was worth it.

My, oh my, is life strange. Well, I'm still sick and still getting tests done. I had my Kaiser doctor tell me that all of my symptoms could be anxiety (what?!) and went to a Kaiser psychologist only to have him tell me he doesn't think any of my symptoms are anxiety (my thoughts exactly), but rather, something auto-immune. So now I get to go back to my Kaiser doctor and have her actually listen to me and start figuring out new things to look into. I also have a holistic doctor who has diagnosed me with chronic fatigue syndrome, but since that's so broad, I want Kaiser to eliminate some other things before we depend on that diagnosis.

Poor hubby is very busy. Between working for the church, FedEx, and being a househusband, he has very little time left. He is pretty much Superman. Yeah, I think I saw an "S" on his shirt when he left the house this morning.

Wedding season is upon us. We have 5 wedding to go to (David is officiating 2, and a groomsman in 2) between now and the end of June. Only one is local. Pray that I am in good enough health to go to a few of them. One of the weddings is in Pennsylvania and we are going to make it a whole DC/New York trip, so I am reeeeally hoping I start making some progress in the next month so I am well enough.

There's not much else to share about our lives right now. Pretty boring and predictable, yet unpredictable at the same time, if that is possible. We are looking forward to living in our house again, finding out what is wrong with me so we can deal with it or learn to live with it, going to the East Coast, going on dates out of the house, and going to church together again someday, YET, we are learning to live in today and realize God's plans are bigger than ours.

"For richer or for poorer... in sickness and in health." We forgot to say we'd prefer the first and the last. : )

he cheers me up

David has been an absolute sweetheart while I've been sick. This morning I was laying in bed feeling sorry for myself and he said, "I know what will cheer you up!" He then bent down to pull something out from under the bed and came up looking like this:

Ha ha! Yeah- that cheered me up. And thank you, Christi, for the awesome party favor.

He Left Me for Alaska

I have been living with my parents and sister since this past Friday as David is in Alaska on an adventure. He is with a group of men from our church that travel to Alaska every year for a week of manly activities. They hike, fish, hunt, eat red meat or fish with every meal, and explore. I talked to David yesterday and he said they had bear for dinner the night before- a bear they had killed the day before that! Talk about manly manliness... wow. Today David is going on a halibut charter to catch us a year's worth of halibut filets. Maybe we'll share some with you if the price is right. : )

Edit: I just talked to David and they cancelled the halibut charter today because it is so windy, but they will be doing it tomorrow. Today they are going out on a boat to fish for silver salmon.

Family update> My sister Brigitte and her man, Robert, got engaged this past Thursday so it has been a whirlwind of weddingness since I have been living at the parental's residence. Luckily, the Lord had mercy on us and the days of wedding dress shopping came to a hault when she found her dress and the bridesmaid's dresses yesterday. It's going to be a beautiful and bright 'n' Brigittey wedding.

I still can't believe that my little sister is getting married. Crazy. I'm looking forward to some antique shopping and movie watching with the mom and sister this week. It has been fun being back at "home" with my mom, dad, and sister. Bob left for college on Saturday so it has just been the four of us again. How unusual to have us all together in the same house for a week without the fiance' and husband. I am sure that this may be the last time it ever happens, but it has been fun.

With all that's going on, I still have time to miss my husband, but I have to share with you what a sweetheart he is. On Thursday I was running around getting decorations for Brigitte's engagement party and David and I met to have lunch in Petaluma. Afterwards we went into Copperfield's to look for some wedding books for Brig and Bob and didn't come up with anything. We parted ways and David was supposed to be packing for Alaska while I was out. Well, on Friday I was looking at our checking account online and saw a Copperfield's charge on there. I called David to make sure he bought something there and that we weren't the victims of identity theft (like in those commercials where a biker man's voice is coming out of an old lady knitting on a couch- I love those commercials- probably my fave). He said that he did and I pressed to find out what, but he was holding back. He finally told me that he bought something for me and that I had ruined the surprise. Oops. After talking to him I wondered what book he would have bought me as a surprise. While we were there I had shown him this crazy huge weapons coffee table book and for a second I panicked thinking that he might have gotten it for me.

There wasn't anything else I had pointed out, but I definitely wasn't serious about wanting that. I continued wondering but forgot about it as the day went on. Saturday morning my mom asked me to check the mail and in our mailslot was a manila envelope addressed to "The Wife in Rohnert Park" from "The Husband in Alaska". When I opened it, I found a stack of notecards- one for every day of the week. I opened the one for Saturday and let me share with you what I saw...

Rather than writing a letter for every day, David left me a picture for every day with a little love note. What he bought at Copperfield's was a pack on notecards! Isn't that sweet? Well, I think so. I talked to David on the phone later and he told me that the whole time I was out shopping for decorations, he was working on my daily notes until I called and told him I was 5 minutes away. That was when he threw all of Alaska stuff into a suitcase. I'll admit, I have been cheating and opening the letters at 12am so it is technically the date printed on them. I really needed to get that off of my chest. It was such a burden. Anyway- all that to say- I hit the husband jackpot. <3 id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5096051541598386386" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPtX0FhMDFRkvgfYvmx2mQdgVtxTnD71xhFlG6vZkwWF3kzjW0CwVo0HjmpoYWf2eSlgVew9cNxbk2qzRxvQ5iZap3sOefs9VTvn0IxavvuBPKMC-5GsMBxsz0cnrEPAtLGLIFtSvIiaLZ/s320/BBWeddingness+008.jpg" border="0">
